We are thrilled to report that Mr. Tom Wannop from our security team was named “Employee of the Year” at our recent staff appreciation luncheon. Tom was chosen by a committee of residents from the 12 “Employee of the Month” candidates from the last year.
What does the “Employee of the Year” receive? Tom gets $500 cash, a covered parking place for a year and a plaque. Nice going, Tom!
Barbara Griffin, from administration, was also honored for her 39 years of service to Bay Village! Barb has also announced that she is planning on retiring at the end of the year. Congratulations, Barb! Bay Village won’t be the same without you!
Wellness Corner
By Petra Mueller
A big thank you to all the volunteers who helped to keep as many exercise classes running as possible while I was recovering. Thank you to Betty Schattschneider and all the participants at the Splash class; Carol-Jane Guardino for teaching Tai Chi; Don Burgett and David Pyle for helping with the Hand Exercises. Thank you to the staff of Resident Services and Housekeeping for helping out.
You noticed I am back, but the schedule is still limited, even in November. Gradually I will add more classes to the schedule, as my condition improves.
On Nov. 8, I invite you to walk the Ringling Bridge with me and then go for breakfast at the Sand Dollar Restaurant on the Rooftop at Lido Key with a breathtaking view.
I see a lot of new residents here at Bay Village. Welcome to all and feel free to stop by and learn about our Wellness Program, the strength circuit or get your personal Fitness Program.
Sarasota Academy of the Arts
Those of you who have lived at Bay Village for a long time will remember the Julie Rohr Dance Academy kids coming and performing. They haven’t been here in years and we are happy to report that after some restructuring of their curriculum, Julie Rohr now runs her academy as a K-8 charter school, approved by the school board in 2012.
The advanced group of students are sure to delight you with a great performance on Wednesday, Nov. 5, at 10:30 a.m. You’ll learn a little more about the school and its goals for its 300 students. The school is part of the district, which means they are fully funded and tuition-free for students, however, they rely on donations for “extras” like transportation, so we will be passing the hat at the end! Thanks for your support of this fantastic new school!
