Rev. Dr. Chuck Moffett
No matter what you might think, it is not too late. You have not lost your chance for reflection and renewal. In fact, the world is crying out for each of us to do just that. Our world’s existence depends on our commitment to help establish a world community based on justice, respect, humility and grace. The cynic will disregard all that as being naive, but in the privacy of our souls each of us knows those are the only answers. Throughout the year, each of the three main religions focus on the need for renewal: Judaism= Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur; Christianity=Lent; Islam=Ramadan. There still is time for each of us to be renewed. How? A recent email offers some reflection:
Give up PRIDE – “blessed are the humble,” so all will be blessed.
Give up BLAME – take responsibility for your own actions, and be part of the solution.
Give up GUILT – Each of us is a beloved child of God. Today is a gift of new day.
Give up ENTITLEMENT – No one, not even God, owes me anything. I live only by grace.
Give up REVENGE – the only person hurt by me holding on to revenge is I.
Give up FEAR OF FAILURE – failure is part of success … just make sure to fail forward.
Give up UNWORTHINESS – each person is fearfully and wonderfully made by God.
Give us FEAR – nothing … NOTHING … can separate you from the love of God.
Thank you, Marian Wissenberg, for reminding us renewal is not just for a season, but a lifetime journey of re-creation.
