Lectures can “lullabilize.” Sermons can “snoozerize.”
But STORIES always SPEAK!!
A young couple was invited to spend the weekend with his boss at his palatial mansion on the waterway, where his cars cost more than their home.
All went well, and the couple was delighted to have a rare glimpse into how the wealthy live. Their host had made arrangements for all of them to enjoy an evening at one of the finest up-scale restaurants in the entire area.
As the three were entering the restaurant, the boss suddenly stopped, looked down at the pavement, and stared for a long, silent moment, reached down, and picked up a penny. He held it, smiled, and put it in his pocket.
Throughout dinner, the entire scene nagged at the young wife. She finally asked the boss if the penny he had found had some particular value. The boss held the out the penny to her and asked her to read what was printed on the coin.
She began, “United States of…”
“No, no, turn the coin over,” he said.
“IN GOD WE TRUST.”
“Yes, that’s it. Whenever I see that inscription, I pray to see if my trust IS in God – do I really trust GOD?! I think it is God’s way of starting a conversation with me. God is patient. And pennies are plentiful.” So may it be with each of us at Bay Village.
