About Us
The Bay Village Difference
You want to live abundantly. Our Life Plan Community is here to offer independence, connection, enrichment, and continual learning for mature adults in south Sarasota, Florida.
Accreditation
As a Life Plan Community of choice, we hold ourselves to high standards. For that reason, we have maintained accreditation in the aging industry’s sole accreditor, the Commision on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) since 1987. In fact, Bay Village is the only CARF-accredited Life Plan Community in Sarasota County. CARF assures the quality of care we give to each and every one of our residents. This means we conform to proven business practices, employee training, information management and continuous quality improvement planning. Each year, we must submit an Annual Conformance to Quality Report to prove our adherence to the standards and maintain our accreditation. Learn more about CARF here.
REGULATION
Bay Village of Sarasota is regulated by Chapter 651 of the Florida Statutes, through the Florida Department of Financial Services as well as the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA).
Our History
Established in 1975, Bay Village was founded by Dr. Arnold Poole, a local pastor at the Pine Shores Presbyterian Church. An astute and compassionate leader, he developed relationships with many of its members and recognized a similar pattern: the elderly members were leaving the area. This troubled the pastor and prompted him to consider the development of a new community, a village in the bay, to create community among seniors and prevent them from having to move away. From this vision, Bay Village was formed.
Fast-forward to today, Bay Village is proudly the only accredited Life Plan Community in Sarasota County. There are more than 400 residents on the beautiful campus with residents from all over the U.S. who come to learn, play, and relax. This is the place that residents call home!
Ownership and Management
Bay Village of Sarasota, Inc. is a Florida not-for-profit corporation which owns the land, buildings, and all the assets of the retirement community. Rather than stockholders, the corporation has “members” of the congregants of Pine Shores Presbyterian Church, which established Bay Village in 1975. The sole function of the members is to elect the corporation Board of Directors. The Directors, who serve voluntarily without compensation, are responsible for goal setting, policy making, standard setting, program evaluation, and fiscal management of Bay Village. The Board of Directors employs a Chief Executive Officer who manages the day-to-day operations of Bay Village.
