Welcome CanAmGer Band
On Thursday, March 9th, at 7:30 p.m., we invite you to enjoy an evening of traditional jazz with the CanAmGer Band! Can anyone guess how this group got their name? Their members hail from CANada, AMerica and GERmany, of course!
They are under the direction of banjoist Mike Evans, who also leads the Coast to Coast Jazz Band and the Toll House Jazz Band. Both bands toured throughout the Midwest for a number of years. We’re happy he is bringing the CanAmGer Band to the Bay Village Stage. This is their first time performing here, so we hope we have a large, enthusiastic audience that night!
You can hear music samples and read the extensive background of each musical member at www.tradjazzbands.com. We also hung that information in the glass case across from the gift shop!
Two Returning Favorites Perform
We have two new performers scheduled this month, The Crystal Trio and the CanAmGer Band, which you just read about. We also have two returning favorites, The Maple Sugar Serenaders and The Weintraub Duo! On Thursday, March 2nd, at 7:30 p.m. the Maple Sugar Serenaders take the stage. Mark Trichka and Lisa Brande have been performing together for 20 years professionally and have been performing at Bay Village for nearly as long!
Their unique repertoire and lively stage presence are just two of the reasons we keep asking them back. They play the fiddle, mandolin and guitar. Expect to hear everything from fiddle tunes from the dance halls of New England to music from around the world. Plus, they bring REAL maple syrup with them that you may purchase after the show! On Thursday, March 30th, at 7:30 p.m. we welcome back the wonderful Weintraub Duo! Jason and Nancy Weintraub both graduated from the renowned Eastman School of music and perform all your classical favorites, with Nancy on piano and Jason on English horn.
Day Trips and Shows!
On Wednesday, March 1st, we are headed to Circus Sarasota! We are anticipating another excellent show filled with thrilling and fun acts again this year!! Instead of having lunch out prior to the show, we’ll head to dinner this year, following the show. We haven’t been to Captain Brian’s in years, so we’ll head there for fresh seafood and reasonable prices. Bus departs at 12:30 p.m.!
Our group had SUCH a wonderful time last year, out with the Audubon Society on the Carefree Learner boat, we booked it again! Join us on Tuesday, March 28th, at 11:30 a.m. as we head to Marina Jack Marina and enjoy a two hour cruise around the bay and out to the rookery to learn about and view HUNDREDS of birds and their new babies! Pelicans, egrets, spoonbills, night herons, blue herons and other species were sighted last year! Bring your camera and binoculars! We’ll have lunch at Marina Jack’s restaurant following the cruise.
B.I.L.L. Series News
We would first like to thank Dr. David Miano for his fascinating 5-week series, “Ancient Explorers.” He has additional topics, so we will be sure to ask him to return!
Beginning on March 7th, from 10:30-noon in the auditorium, we welcome Bob Clementis back for another “Foreign Affairs” series. Bob’s class , like Dr Miano’s series, is provided to us courtesy of Sarasota Adult and Community Education. Bob’s classes are very popular and encourage discussion. He usually focuses on the Middle East. Bob is a respected former foreign policy analyst with NATO and the U.S. military. He holds a master’s degree from John Carroll University in foreign relations and history. This is a 6-week class.
During this time, we have “lighter” DVDs at the usual B.I.L.L. time, every Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Everyone really seemed to enjoy the first two “Wonders Of…” films that we showed in January and there are four films left in that series. See your calendar for each title. Following that, we have a film about the Military Tattoo in Scotland as well as a tour of England. Details about those films will be on the flyer you receive in your mailbox!

From the Dining Services Director
Did you know that March 7 is “Bay Village Dining Services Appreciation Day”? Back in 2002, after the completion of the kitchen renovation, the Bay Village Board of Directors decreed March 7 as Dining Services Appreciation Day.
This was done in recognition for the staff’s efforts during the main kitchen renovation. The staff prepared meals in a temporary kitchen at the back of the building and did not miss a beat during the five-month project.
As you go about your day on Tuesday, March 7, please recognize the Dining Services staff for their efforts. I know they will appreciate it.

In March we have 3 very different outings planned for you.
A sunset stroll in Venice along the pier by Sharky’s and a walk in the park by the beach combined with dinner is planned for March 8th.
Walking around the lake at Benderson Park or parts of it has been a request from residents for a while now and on Saturday, March 25th, we are heading to the rowing facility to do just that. You can walk and then enjoy lunch at the mall, or you can go straight to the UTC Mall and enjoy some free time to shop till you drop and have lunch.
Tour Lemon Bay Park, a natural setting with various guides on March 29th. One of our residents, Jack Sneider, is a volunteer there and we had a great time last year. This is the time of the year, when the weather is so perfect for outdoor activities. Take advantage of it!!!
